Welcome to Class 6T

Our class teacher is Mr. Turnbull.

Welcome to a new academic year and your final year in our school. We are looking forward to a fun, hard-working and productive year of learning.

​

This year, we have some excellent topics to cover. In Science, we will be starting with ‘Evolution and Inheritance’. Our first historical period will be World War 1 which links beautifully to our future learning: a local history study. In English we will be studying the famous poem ‘The Highwayman’ by Alfred Noyes. Our class reader will be ‘War Horse’ by Michael Morpurgo. Later in the year we will be reading excellent stories by Louis Sachar (Holes), David Almond (Skellig) and many more! Maths will start with place value and move into the four operations including long multiplication and division.

PE is timetabled for a Friday afternoon where children will take part in swimming lessons. We hope that, by the end of these sessions, children can meet national expectations of swimming 25 metres independently.

We have some amazing school trips planned including: Beamish Museum, local history walks, Geography fieldwork and a trip to a local place of worship. As you’re in year 6, you will also have the chance to take part in a residential visit at the end of the year.
